5 Ways to Make Your Brand More Accessible
In our design journey, a key principle has moved more and more into our conscious. The importance of accessible design. We know we don't and can't always perfectly execute this, we will however strive to be continually learning and growing. To join the mission of World Usability Day we'd love to share a few tips that we have learned as we adapt and evolve to being more inclusive.
Conservative estimates say that approximately 15%
of the world experience some form of disability.
We believe that no one should have to face barriers to a functional and positive user experience.
COLOR
Ensure that your design is accessible to users with low vision and color blindness by using an accessible color palette. You can use a contrast checker to determine the accessibility of your palette.
TEXT
Regular text is defined as 12 point. Large text is defined as bold 14-17 point or 18 point or larger. If possible, ensure that any digital applications utilize font increase and zoom tools.
IMAGES
Provide a text equivalent for every non-text element. Most social platforms support providing alt text, utilize these features whenever possible for images posted.
LINKS
Do not use unclear link text like "click here", instead describe the link for screen readers. In addition, you can utilize visual cues like icons, underline links, and highlight menu links on mouseover.
VIDEO
If you are uploading an audio or video file, supply a script, or generate captions for the content. Some platforms have this feature built-in or use a caption generator.
